Veronica Blog 15 weeks

What I learned in Technology
Wow, it has been 15 weeks of class. When I first start to learn about how technology class was nothing. I mean I knew how to type on a computer and do spreadsheets and stuff like that. I never knew how to make a webpage or data sheet or even a commix or make a movie. I am still working on learning how to the movies.
I feel what I learned in this class will help me to learn even if I decided to go into a field instead of education. Technology is for everyone.

Thank you to Lisa who made the class fun to learn and very interesting. You challenge us to go beyond our comfort zone. I wonder like a lesson 5000 days on the internet I wonder what the next 5000 days will be.

Thank you to all my classmates for all the help and input you gave me in the class. I want to give Larry a special thank you. You were always there for everyone when every I needed help and you will make a great teacher.

Google Earth

Google Earth
Google Earth is a great asset to teachers and to future teacher. I found it to be very helpful in the navigation of the site.
The site I found to be interesting was the Google Maps and the California Missions. I have been to the following missions when visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Paso Robles California.
• Mission of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa
• Mission of San Jose
• Mission of San Miguel Archangel
This would a great use for teachers if they are studying the history of California. I love history so it was great seeing the mission in your life and I think it would give a great understanding our students when we are teaching to show that history is real.
Another thing I like was the use of Google for studying of science and I was thinking how great it would be to use it to combine lesson of history, science, and math. An example of this could be a history teacher teaching about the history of the California, and science could use it to teach their students about earthquakes or even about the Morro bay Rock that stands 576 feet tall. A math teacher could use the information given from the science teacher to figure out the percentage of earthquakes.
Google earth has endless possibilities for teacher and students and it would be a waste for teachers not to use in their classrooms.

Educational Philosophy

Educational Philosophy Blog

I think that Educational philosophy for teachers and students is a relationship and with all relationship there will be some problems and some rewards in teaching. Each of us who are learning to become teachers or already teachers has to remember that each student is different and what may work for one might not work for another.
You can ask any teachers that yes there are challenges when teaching. However, the rewards out way anything that could be challenge. A good example of this http://thereflectiveteacher.wordpress.com/2006/06/07/statement-of-educational-philosophy/ in the right column Inspirational Teaching. The blog is called Romeo, Juliet, and the reason why.
Educators are role models, even though we made not think it is up us to maintain an atmosphere where children who come into our class feel comfortable and confident.
In this week, we learned about different types of educational Philosophy at first I would admit I was overwhelmed with all the information that was out there to learn from doing our researched. The one thing that stuck in my mind was the four types of Educational Philosophy.
• PROGRESSIVISM
• "PERENNIALISM
• "ESSENTIALISM
• RECONSTRUCTIONISM
The one that I found to be the best use for me in a classroom would be the Progressivism that is to be is where teachers encourage students by using hands on approach.
I know right now that I will continue to grow as teacher and we as teaches will always continue learn and as we learn our students will grow with us. My educational philosophy will changed as I continue by journey in teaching.

Veronica Blog on enjoying Technology

What were the positive sides of Technology Class.?
Like most of the class, I did not see a computer in my school years until I was a senior in high school. During that time, it was just basis uses of the computers. The one thing that I really enjoy in our class was the WebQuest; yes sometimes I wanted to pull out my hair because something would not go right on the WebQuest. I think that one lesson that will be very beneficial teachers in a classroom. Another lesson that I really enjoy doing was our database lesson it was fun making a lesson plan using ideas from other teachers and ideas of your own. The power points were very creative I will admit that at first I did not like doing them. I thought something was missing, however, at the end I really enjoying doing the power points and look forward to doing them again.
Technology has enriched my life in so many ways, from taken class online and continuing my education, to e-mailing my friends and family down home in Florida. Technology is great learning tool that each of us will continue to learn in the future.

video logs

Veronica Blog

Well this week we were suppose to either do a video log or view vlogs what a task that we had to do. I never do how many people vlogs about anything. Just a few examples were there were many vlogs on ASL deaf community for video blogging to showing how dreadlocks do. There were many inspirational vlogs about how people cope a disease that they have just as a boy who aspenger syndrome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbgUjmeC-4o. Another example of video logging was a young girl talking about cooking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7eyPtADybs. I will have to admit some of the videos logs were a little too much. I am not sure if video logging is for me right I do not have the equipment to do video logging. However being shy, I am not sure if I could put myself out there for the world to see. I do feel that video logs will be more and more in common in the future. I will admit I did try to find video logs that were educational most of them I found that I saw were students telling how bad their teachers were. I know if I can searching I will find more. I think again that vlogs will be use in our children future education needs.

Veronic Blog on Schools Kill Creativity

Veronica Blog on schools kills creativity

"Education takes you into the future that we can't grasp. (Robison) What a powerful statement. It is true how much education has become so unpredictable. Children use to be able to expression themselves in the arts. However, many school now have taken away the music programs and art programs because of cost and because of more focus is on Mathematics and English ever, many school now have taken away the music programs and art programs because of cost and many feel that it is not necessary to teach children about art and music.

"If don't prepare kids that okay to do wrong, then as adult they never learned to come up with things." (Robison) I thought about this and I watch how my seven old daughter was getting very upset because you she could not remember her spelling words and she ended tearing up the paper because she was suppose to creative sentence with her words.

I like how Sir Ken Robinson talk about how "why don't we teach dance every day like we do math." I agree with Sir Ken Robison when he talks about how we only teach from the waste up. To me this has me thinking what great idea, we worried about our kid's health, and how they are getting heavy and heavy each year. Many people do not realize that we use math in music and in dance. Studies have shown that more people that use music and art have a better standing of math.
It is scary to think that because of so much pressure on kids today that feel that is different can be a curse.

Power Point

Veronica Blog on Power Point

The worst Power Point that I had every experience was one I was in my geology class. In the class, we had to make a power point presentation for our final class. One of the presentation was very confusing the person use different sound effects, different fonts, each slide had a different fade in and out before you saw what the presentation was about.
Because of the things going on in the power point, it was very hard to keep focus on what the power point was suppose to be about.

Hans Rosling

Veronica Blog on Hans Rosling:

I found Hans Rosling to be very entertaining in a way that you do not realize that you were learning something new. I love how he used data from the 1960's and compare it today worlds. How much as change. One of my favorites was how he used it see how much as change from the Vietnam War in regards to families. Because of the great animation, that Hans Rosling used in his video presentation it made it easier to understand how important Data is to all of us. Hans Rosling started a "non-profit venture called Gapminder. This software will link data to animations.
I love to hear one of his talks

Veronica Blog on Bloom's Taxonomy

Veronica Blog

What a week that we had we had to finish our WebQuest and I have to admit I am still working on my WebQuest. It is one to me one the most frustrating things that I have ever done before. I will admit I am having been questioning myself whether I would be a good teacher. I mean how can except my students do the work correctly as teacher I cannot even do the work properly. So how can I do a proper WebQuest?

Again now for my Blog at Bloom's Taxonomy. Bloom Taxonomy was about knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. Bloom's Taxonomy to me was part of the critical thinking process it gives teachers and students the chance to challenge each other. Teachers can push their students to excel in thinking outside the box. What I mean outside the box is for students not always rely on the norm of learning to recall information only from a textbook. In addition, we learned that sometimes we have to take idea that may have already been use and recreated in to our own way without copyrighting another work. I realize that my WebQuest does not meet the standards of Bloom's Taxonomy. I realize I was doing the WebQuest what I except from my students was not clearly understand and the comprehension was not even there. I think I will need to take a step back and give myself a hard look about whether I should become a teacher. This was a very good revelation for me. How do I except to do a great evaluation on my students for just things as proper grammar and spelling, When I lack such skills

Again doing this blog on Bloom's Taxonomy and a WebQuest was very enlightened.

Dr. Dodge

Veronica Blog on Dr. Dodge Video about WebQuest
First off, I will admit that I watch the video three times; I wanted to make sure that I did not miss anything that I thought was very important. Dr Dodge talks about how we need to be careful in not choosing an inappropriate topic. I can understand his point being teachers or we are studying to be teachers we want to have a topic that is appropriated for our grade level. There is a fine line to what is appropriated to teach especially if you are making a WebQuest.
Dr. Dodge talks about how to avoid designing WebQuest using topics that are well covered by textbooks, avoid factual recall, or procedures.
I think what Dr. Dodge meant was that we want our students to learned however, we want to make sure that it is topic that has not been covered in a textbook so much that it would be boring to the students to learn and they would not get anything out of the WebQuest. Agree that we have to be careful especially if a fact has been found not to be tree or has been recall. I am not sure about procedures in a WebQuest or we not in a way telling our students in our WebQuest that we are creating for our class how we want them to do their work. I am not sure what Dr. Dodge meant when he said in the video, "give a scaled down version of what adults do" and" when do adults this knowledge"
The one thing that I found very interesting in video was Dr Dodge's taxonomy. This gave me a better understanding on how to break down what is "life verbs and classroom verbs", showing what overlapped; apply; analyze, and explain means in creating a WebQuest for a topic that you want your students to learn.
Right now, I am not sure how I feel about doing a WebQuest I found it is very confusing at times and yet other times I found it be one the best tools and teacher can have.

web quest

WEB QUEST
While reading about web quest, I was thinking how much internet technology has changed in many ways. I remember in the video just a couple of weeks ago “The first 500 Days.” How much technology has changed? I remember when I was senior in high school; we just got our first set of computers at my high school. Now, computers all the norm of schools and more and more teachers are doing their lesson through computers. One just lesson plans are through the web quest. I am now in the process of learning web quest. The lesson I am working on is for my students to a web quest lesson on the topic of “Ellis Island.” I have to admit it is a little scary to set up your first web lesson for students when you never did it before. You wonder to do have enough information that your students need to the project that you assign for your students. Is the information that you give them right for their grade level? I mean you would not want more in-depth site for students who are in the third grade learning about “Ellis Island,” then from a student, who is in 11th grade history class learning about the same subject. I look forward to doing my first web quest. I think it will be fun. In way I think that in class, we are doing a kind of web quest. Our teacher set up the lesson, and we follow and learn by doing project through the internet.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons:
I will admit that I never even heard of the site Creative Commons before. I found some very positive things about creative Commons. However, I will admit there is some very negative side to the website. One thing that I found disturbing to be the fact are many ads on the site that I found not to be very appropriate for kids to see. Example of this was how to enlarge man private parts. I know that I would not want my kids to see that especially young children. I would not bring this site into a classroom because of just ads in the site. I understand why creative Commons is important because it gives people the right to express themselves freely without being censored or even heard. I know that I will not use this site in a classroom, when I have begun a teacher.

What a website means to me.

I will admit I had little knowledge of how to build a website. The thought of designing a website scare me, because I want the design, are doing to look professional. However, I want my personality to shine through in the web design. I will admit that I use to have Myspace and still have my account with Myspace. However, I hardly go on to the site any more. This is the second time I sign up for my space because I was getting an overload of stuff from people that I never even hear from before. I wanted to keep the site on because do have some friends from home on there. I do now use face book and have met many of my friends from my high school there. Facebook is a good site for me because can keep up with what is going on back home. The three sites that I really enjoy being the Google, Yola and word press. Google I thought would be good, since we are using our blogs through this site. I look at Yola and found it to be very interesting was one of the designs, I like on the site had a map and world globe, I thought that would be a good one since my minor is in history. I am still looking at word press. However, it seems to me to be very interesting. It is funny how much now we depend on the internet. For instance, how now we are taken classes on line and how we can book a flight to somewhere or even or how to do communicate with our family and friends who may not even live close to us. The only thing that worries me is as we learned in the video the first 5000 days. How eventually the technology of computer will be larger than our own brain. The technology world is changing and website that we know will change with it.

" The First 5000 days"

"The First 5000 Days"

"As I was watching the video I found, how amazing has our lives has changed in the last 10 years? As very shocked to realize how dependent we are on technology. However, I know that times are changing. I remember how my grandmother use to talk how she used to read stories about people going into space or even flying from one place to another, or even someone using a machine that can find information for you. This was a time when there were no computers, having airplanes, or even thought about going into space. I think that technology will be grounding breaking in the future; however, I do feel that it will be very scary especially as our generation gets older, because as we get older we do not like change, you can see that change is happening now in the world of technology. I found it also very interesting when the video talk about how in the next 5000 days that the web will have the processing power that will be greater than own human brain. Things are changing in the World Wide Web it will be up to us whether we as human embrace the changes of the web.

What makes me nervous I do not know enough about classroom technology. I want to learn much as possible because I feel that this class will be a great asset for me a future teacher. Furthermore, I am nervous because this is a very different class then I have every taken before. I think that all of us are nervous because most of us do not have the technology in the classroom when we were growing up, sometimes it is hard to see things change when you are in your comfort zone. I think also this will be great class for me because it will get me out of my comfort zone to learn new things again as a future teacher.

What I learn about the online tutoring was how many websites can be scams, and we need to be careful. When we are doing research work for our classes or anything we need to look up information. I also learn that from this day forward I will check out to make sure the site is a legal site and that is not a fraud.
